Long goes the saying that “Once bitten twice shy!” My experience with embracing new technology has taught me to wait until all the dust has settled rather than to be caught up in the mist of excitement; That’s why my XP Professional machine still runs Microsoft Office 2003 and I still rely on the “nice” guys at Microsoft to Convert my any .docx document I receive from my very considerate friends and business associates to normal .doc .

They have created a tool which they call, Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats

Quite a mouthful it has to be said but hey, what do you expect from Microsoft, they make the rules and you just have to obey but in all fairness to Microsoft that tool is called FileFormatConverters.

Open .*x in previous MS Office Versions

The compatibility pack adds support for opening and viewing .docx, .pptx or .*x documents in MS Office 2000, Office XP and Office 2003. You see using MS Windows doesn’t have to be as taxing as the Linux guys would have you believe.

You can always count on Microsoft to “support” their products in one way or another and one of those ways could be removing the products from the shelves altogether ;-)
